R/C Electronic Helicopter

April 20th, 2008 · No Comments

Shown above is the disasterous “Hawk” R/C Electornic Helicopter. As far as I can tell, the actual manufacturer name is “Pheoni.” It is somewhat difficult to tell for sure, and given the actual performance of the product, I have a feeling I know why.

To begin, the reason you are seeing the helicopter fly just inches off the ground…is because that’s as high as I could get it to fly. This might be a result of the battery damages caused when it began to light itself on fire. THAT small problem was a result of the cheap plastic casing falling of the battery leads which allowed to the wires to cross. Instantly, the battery began to bubble and I was sure it was actually going to explode. At the time I was touching the battery and it literally burned my skin as though I was touching an iron.

Charging the battery is a bit challenging in its own right. The instructions state, and I QUOTE: “You can choose the different plugs to charge the batteries. But the charging time is neither too long nor too shirt. When the time is too long, the batteries will too hot and it will damage the batteries.”

It’s possible I’m suffering from a case of the batteries too hot. Another classic line from the manual is the disclaimer on the cover itself. It boldly states “You cannot copy the parts of the instructions in any ways if you are not allowed by us.” IF you are not allowed by us it says…why the tease? Why not just come out and say whether or not it is allowed?

Again, this video was taken with a Casio EX-F1 at 600fps. I scaled back the frame rate to try and give a representation of the iterations between full speed and 600fps. This video was shot in Arlington, Virginia on April 13, 2008.
